Monitoring the health of your cat is vital, as they may not exhibit visible signs of illness.
Cats are extremely adept at hiding when something is wrong, blood work allows us to get an insider’s view on what is going on with them.
Our cats cannot easily tell us what is wrong with them, blood tests can allow us to test for certain organ functions, such as the kidney or liver. These tests are key when prescribing new medications, or even when we’re doing a check up to see where we stand healthwise.
We do a lot of tests in our own in-house Idexx laboratory system. We can have tests results for in-house tests within the hour, depending on the test.
Unless explained otherwise by your veterinarian, your cat does not need any special preparation for a blood test.
We recommend blood tests should be done every six months on healthy senior cats. We also recommend routine blood tests on cats who are taking long-term medication and we mandate presurgical blood tests as well.
We are able to perform a urinalysis in-house and if necessary, we can also send the sample away for testing. We also perform biopsies that are examined both in-house and sent away to a histopathologist for further examination.
