Vaccinations

Vaccinations strengthen your dog’s immune system against diseases.

Vaccinations are an important part of your dog’s overall wellness and protecting your dog from illness. We will assess each dog individually. Based on lifestyle and age of your dog, our veterinarians will discuss the best preventive wellness plan to help keep your dog healthy and happy.

What types of vaccinations do you offer for adult dogs?

We offer the DA2P-CPV combination vaccination and rabies vaccination as our core vaccines. We also offer the Lyme and Bordetella vaccines which are optional and depend on the lifestyle of your dog.

Is there a schedule for how often to vaccinate a dog?

An adult dog that has been vaccinated properly as a puppy will normally need a booster of its core vaccines every 3 years. The bordetella vaccine, which is recommended based on the lifestyle of your dog will need to be boostered yearly. Once your pet reaches a certain age, your veterinarian will recommend a vaccine titre test to test for immunity.

Why is it important to vaccinate your dog?

Vaccines are the best way to prevent life-threatening illnesses. We are quite fortunate that now in Newfoundland, we have few cases of dogs sufferings from the parvovirus. Through vaccinating the majority of the canine population, we have managed to nearly eliminate this life-threatening illness.
